Venetian Masks, craft or art?

When do Venetian masks become art rather than craft? Does it matter? It does if maskmakers can be released from their ‘craft box’ and set free to explode their ideas into the art world. It’s all a matter of profile.

If you aren’t making masks on traditional designs, then I figure that you’ve made the first step towards Art, but non-traditional doesn’t necessarily make it art. What does make a mask art? And how can we make a market for masks as art, so we maskmakers can make more ‘arty’ masks?
